Belarus’ trade unions provide necessary aid to Ukrainian refugees

Housing, food, the first necessary medical assistance – all this has already been organised by trade unions for about 80 refugees from Ukraine on the premises of one of the trade union’s health resorts in the Gomel Region

“These are primarily families with young and middle-aged children, there are also elderly people. One of the health resort’s buildings – free for this time – has been specially allocated for them,” noted the press service of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus. “Here we are working closely with the Red Cross to help those who need it first and to provide the support that people require. Of course, first of all, this is housing and food. Moreover, we see that many of the refugees who have arrived have acute or chronic diseases. Therefore, together with representatives of the authorities and the Red Cross, the issues of providing them with the necessary medical care are being settled. Assistance with household items is also provided where possible.

As noted in the press service of the Federation of Trade Unions, the possibility is now also being studied to accommodate refugees at some other facilities which are currently unused: tourist and sports bases, health camps.

Now the technical issues of preparing these facilities are being considered in detail: from logistics to the organisation of heating and food. If necessary, together with the authorities concerned, everything possible will be done to provide further assistance to people who are in trouble.
