Belarus took part in discussion on peaceful uses of outer space in Vienna

The republic took part in the 60th session of the scientific and technical subcommittee of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, Belarus’ National Academy of Sciences reports

The 60th session of the scientific and technical subcommittee of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space was held in Vienna, Austria, in a hybrid format. A delegation of Belarus consisting of representatives of the National Academy of Sciences and the Geoinformation Systems company took part in the event via videoconference. The organisational support was provided by the Embassy of Belarus in Austria.

Ivan Bucha, the Deputy Director of the Department of Space Activities at the National Academy of Sciences, delivered a speech. “The scientific and technical subcommittee was reported on Article 3 of the agenda (General Exchange of Views) about Belarus’ activities in the field of exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes and prospects for its development, on Article 7 (Space Debris) about the prevention of technogenic contamination of outer space, and on Article 12 (Long-Term Sustainability of Space Activities) about the regulation of long-term sustainability of space activities,” the NAS press service commented.

The session was attended by 102 member states of the UN Committee on the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. Belarus has been its member since 2013.
