Belarus’ State Border Committee: two dead bodies and beaten refugee found on border with Latvia
Belarusian border guards have found two dead refugees on the border with Latvia, sb.by reports with reference to Belarus’ State Border Committee
On May 17th, the body of an Iraqi refugee was found in the Verkhnedvinsk District. Another foreigner, who could not move on his own, was found next to him. The servicemen provided first aid to the victim and called paramedics. The ambulance crew took the man to the Verkhnedvinsk central district hospital.
“Later, Polotsk border guards found the body of another refugee, which was wrapped in a sleeping bag. No documents or personal belongings were found with him,” the Belarusian border agency added.
An investigative task force was working at the scene where the corpses were discovered to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“Since early May, five dead refugees have been found on the Belarusian-Latvian border. A total of 73 refugees have died on the border with the European Union since 2021,” the State Border Committee added.
