Belarus ready to respond in case of western aggression

The State Secretary of Belarus’ Security Council, Aleksandr Volfovich, said Belarus’ army is ready to respond to possible provocation by neighbouring western countries

In his talk with Belarus 1 TV channel, Mr. Volfovich noted that ‘significant militarisation is observed on the western borders of Belarus’ by the EU countries – under the guise of an alleged threat from the East. According to him, in Poland, Lithuania and Latvia, the number of troops and weapons is increasing, and the military infrastructure is being modernised – since large funds are allocated from budgets for the defence sector. In addition, the State Secretary of the Security Council stressed that flights of foreign military aircraft close to Belarus’ borders have become more frequent.

"They are bringing their infrastructure into line with something unclear – probably, unleashing, preparing aggression. I think common people of Poland and Lithuania see what is happening in Ukraine now, what destruction and what tragedy are there, how ordinary people are dying on the territory of Ukraine. I hope they will not want to face the same, because if they unleash aggression against Belarus, military actions will take place not only in Belarus. There will be destruction, death, explosions on their territory as well,” Mr. Volfovich said.

He added, “Belarus, of course, spends money on its Armed Forces, but it is doing this wisely, pointwise – in order to be ready to give a decent response if necessary, in case of provocation.” Mr. Volfovich also noted that Belarus is engaged in the preparation of its Armed Forces and is organising planned combat training events.

"We do not forget about our borders. By now, a part of our forces and means have approached the southern borders, the western borders. They are covering particularly dangerous areas of possible provocations from the territory of the neighbouring countries," the State Secretary of the Security Council concluded.
