According to Belarus’ Prime Minister, Belarus proposed a strategic initiative to the Commonwealth countries entitled ‘CIS – Common Space for Health and Sustainable Development’ for 2026–2035, guided by the long-term priorities of the CIS, CIS Year of Health next year and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
“The initiative is aimed at improving health, social stability and environmental sustainability in the region,” Aleksandr Turchin noted. “The goal of the initiative is to create a unified space for improving the living standards of our citizens through accessible healthcare, environmental projects and social support, as well as digitalising key areas of human life.”
The Prime Minister identified key focuses of the initiative, which are healthcare — developing a digital telemedicine platform and rehabilitation centres to reduce mortality from non-communicable diseases, and ecology — monitoring and cleaning up transboundary waters, creating green health zones and ecological trails to develop tourism, as well as social protection — mobile clinics and volunteer initiatives for 95 percent coverage of basic medical services, and innovations — implementing artificial intelligence to diagnose and treat diseases.
Aleksandr Turchin expressed his confidence that the initiative will strengthen humanitarian co-operation, enhance trust among CIS countries and reinforce the region's position in the global sustainable development agenda.
