Belarus’ plant of 2026 named: common heather

The results of the Plant of 2026 competition have been summed up in Belarus, sb.by reports with reference to the V. F. Kuprevich Institute of Experimental Botany of the National Academy of Sciences

It has been determined that common heather (calluna vulgaris) – a woody evergreen low shrub with strongly branching stems that grows relatively slowly (life expectancy is 40-50 years) – will be the plant of the year in Belarus in 2026. Winning by a majority of votes, it left meadow clover and oak petiolate behind.

The Plant of the Year national campaign is held annually to draw people's attention to the wild nature, its problems and the need for conservation. In 2026, events dedicated to the selected plant will be held countrywide.
