Belarus’ Permanent Representative presented credentials to Director-General of UN Office at Geneva

The Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Office at Geneva, Larysa Belskaya, presented her credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva. The Permanent Representative of Belarus stressed Belarus’ commitment to maintain and strengthen the mandate of the UN Office as a unifying multilateral platform – as reported by the Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s press service.

The Foreign Ministry said that the Belarusian diplomat ‘noted the unique opportunities and role of Geneva-based intergovernmental organisations for building a more harmonised and fair world, effectively responding to the world’s greatest challenges’. She also drew attention to the significant potential of organisations for improving global and regional multifaceted partnerships for sustainable development.

The two sides discussed possible areas of co-operation regarding the issues of regional and global security, including those within the framework of the Conference on Disarmament. “The Belarusian diplomat stressed a paramount importance of a constructive disarmament and non-proliferation agenda based on the principle of the indivisibility of security, especially against the backdrop of the current crisis in the field regional and global security,” informed the press service.

The Foreign Ministry noted that Larysa Belskaya pointed out the unacceptability of politicising the activities of the UN and its specialised agencies in the context of current challenges on a wide range of fundamental issues: from sustainable economic and social development and the environment to the promotion of human rights, refugee protection, gender equality and international healthcare.

The Permanent Representative of Belarus reaffirmed her intention to develop a constructive dialogue and result-oriented interaction with UN agencies and organisations.

For her part, Tatiana Valovaya noted Belarus’ contribution to multilateral diplomacy and stressed the importance of developing mutually beneficial liaisons between our country and the UN Office at Geneva.
