Belarus’ NOC President congratulated Vitaly Smirnov on his 90th birthday
President of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus (NOC) Viktor Lukashenko has congratulated Honorary President of the Russian Olympic Committee, honorary member of the International Olympic Committee Vitaly Smirnov on his 90th birthday, sb.by reports with reference to the NOC press service
Viktor Lukashenko noted that for many decades Vitaly Smirnov had been one of the leaders of the world Olympic movement and had made a huge contribution, which is hard to overestimate, to the development of sports in the post-Soviet space and in the world and to the strengthening of international co-operation.
“You are remembered as a wise leader and an experienced mentor. For more than forty years you have been at the forefront of the Olympic movement, inspiring millions of people around the world with your ideas and initiatives. The high title of Hero of Labour – awarded by the Decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the eve of your anniversary – is a testament to your dedication and commitment,” the congratulatory message reads.
The President of Belarus’ NOC wished Vitaly Smirnov a long life surrounded by the care and warmth of his relatives.
