Belarus’ NOC President congratulated Degtyarev on his election as Head of Russian Olympic Committee
President of Belarus’ National Olympic Committee (NOC) Viktor Lukashenko, on behalf of the NOC and himself, congratulated Mikhail Degtyarev on his election to the post of President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), sb.by reports citing the NOC press service
“This is a significant event not only for you, but also for the entire Olympic family. Your many years of experience and leadership qualities will certainly help you in your new role. I am confident that under your leadership the Russian Olympic Committee will be able to reach new heights and continue to dynamically develop the Olympic movement,” Viktor Lukashenko emphasised.
He wished the new ROC head health, strength and inspiration in the implementation of all plans, “May every day of your work be filled with success, and may co-operation between our Olympic committees grow stronger and expand.”
Russia’s Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev was elected to the post of President of the Russian Olympic Committee during the elections held on December 13th, at the Olympic meeting in Moscow. Degtyarev was the only candidate; according to the results of the open vote, he received 197 votes, two abstained. The Russian Sports Minister replaced four-time Olympic fencing champion Stanislav Pozdnyakov, who in November announced his decision to leave the post two years before the end of his term of office.
