Belarus’ MFA: Lithuania's Charge d'Affaires in Belarus received diplomatic note of protest over border closure
On October 27th, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of Lithuania in Belarus Erikas Vilkanecas was summoned to Belarus’ Foreign Ministry and handed a diplomatic note of protest over Lithuania unilaterally closing the border again without any prior notification, sb.by reports citing Belarus’ Foreign Ministry

“This decision, which affects the rights not only of Belarusians, but also of Lithuanians, citizens of the European Union and other states, clearly demonstrates Vilnius' disregard for the fundamental principles of freedom of movement, one of the fundamental values of the Schengen area and the European Union in general,” the Foreign Ministry noted.
“We are forced to state the anti-popular nature of such actions that make ordinary people hostages of political circumstances,” the Foreign Ministry emphasised.
The Foreign Ministry emphasised that in contrast to Lithuania, Belarus consistently advocates for the normalisation of dialogue and practical co-operation on border control matters, which would serve the interests of all citizens of the countries.
