Belarus’ medical exports exceeded $9m since early 2022

As informed by Dmitry Kalistratov who heads the Department of Entrepreneurship, Pricing and State Property at Belarus’ Healthcare Ministry, the country’s exports of medical services exceeded $9m over three months of 2022 – much owing to visa-free regime

“From January-March 2022, exports of medical services made more than $9m. I should note that the structure of exports has changed – regarding the list of countries and types of medical services. More than 30 percent of the increase in exports of services was provided by foreigners from outside the CIS – i.e. China, the US and Georgia. The most popular services included dentistry, gynaecology, neurology, and rehabilitation. The growth rate exceeded 2 percent,” the official said.

According to Mr. Kalistratov, medical services are most in demand in the border areas of the Gomel and Brest regions, as well as the city of Minsk.

“The visa-free regime certainly influenced the trend. Citizens of Lithuania, Latvia and Poland were increasingly more often coming. People arrived for rehabilitation (from 7 days to several weeks) and for surgery. It should be noted that there is a shift in demand for the services that were postponed due to COVID. Patients from abroad are also interested in diagnostics and complete medical examination. This enables us to offer them other services that follow the diagnostic stage,” he noted.
