Belarus’ Investigative Committee: border guards of neighbouring states continue their cynical treatment of refugees

Two bloodless corpses of migrants were found near the border in Belarus’ Verkhnedvinsk District within just one day with a difference of 18 hours

An official representative of the Investigative Committee, Sergei Kabakovich, commented on the incident, saying that – despite the declared humanism on the part of the collective West – people in uniform serving at the neighbouring states’ border continue to extremely cynically and disparagingly treat refugees’ life and health.

“Investigative and operational teams immediately arrived at the scenes of the incidents. Investigators joined the Vitebsk Region’s Department of the State Forensic Examination Committee to study the details. The dead men had no personal belongings and documents. An expert examination of the objects found will be conducted,” the official informed.

As explained by the Investigative Committee, the preliminary cause of the foreigners’ death was hypothermia. A forensic medical examination will establish the exact cause.

“Currently, the investigation is considering several versions of what happened. However, by analysing the traces at the scenes of the incidents, as well as taking into account the explanations of eyewitnesses, we can assert that the refugees were displaced from the neighbouring state’s territory by force, with unjustified cruelty. There was an unprecedented cynical indifferent attitude towards the lives of those in need of help," Mr. Kabakovich added.

All the circumstances will be established by the Investigative Committee as part of its thorough investigation.

According to the Investigative Committee, that was not the first time when security forces in the border areas of foreign countries failed to leave even the slightest chance for the refugees’ survival: they take away personal belongings, food, documents and mobile phones.
