Belarus increased exchange trading with Middle East by almost 30 percent
In January-August 2025, the exchange turnover of Belarus with the countries of the Middle East increased in value by 29 percent to make $56.4m, the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange press service reports
This year, companies from seven countries of the region have entered into transactions on the Belarusian exchange platform: Israel, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, Syria, and Turkiye (in 2024, there were only four of them), and BUCE spokesman Roman Yaniv commented, “Residents of the UAE, Turkiye and Lebanon are particularly actively using the exchange mechanism, accounting for more than half of the total volume of exchange trading with the Middle East region. At the same time, the dynamics of the amount of transactions in almost all countries is positive: i.e. the exchange turnover with the UAE increased by 45 percent in January-August, and with Turkiye – by 9 percent. Sales figures remain unchanged with Lebanon only, but we expect to increase them by the end of the year, taking into account the demand for domestic lumber.”
The most popular Belarusian goods among Middle Eastern bidders include dairy products, feed additives and products of the woodworking industry. In particular, powdered milk is supplied via BUCE to Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and the UAE, while lumber is in high demand in Israel, Iraq and Turkiye. In addition, sales of flax fibre have been launched in 2025, and this product is now regularly purchased on the exchange platform by Emirati and Turkish companies.
As for imports, Turkish carded yarn has been regularly sold via BUCE this year. As a result, the January-August 2024 figures have been exceeded 15 times. Belarusian enterprises of the textile industry act as buyers.
At the moment, 210 business entities from twelve Middle Eastern countries are accredited at BUCE (23 more than at the beginning of the year). Among the leaders in the number of accredited companies are Turkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Egypt, and Syria.
