Belarus’ House of Representatives Chairman: modern success rooted in country’s achievements over past 30 years
The key to Belarus' current success is the country's achievements over the past thirty years – as stated by the Chairman of the House of Representatives, Igor Sergeyenko, as he met with Begoml-based Vetraz Plant employees
The achievements of Belarus over the past 30 years became the topic of the meeting, which also focused on the upcoming Presidential election.
“The industry is developing dynamically, and Belarus now produces about 80 percent of all tractors in the CIS, almost 50 percent of chemical fibres, and 20 percent of refrigerators. The country’s industrial complex accounts for 80 percent of exports,” Mr. Sergeyenko said, adding that agriculture is also developing dynamically in Belarus. “The republic is among the top five exporters of dairy products and the top 15 meat sellers. Its volume of exports is growing steadily, and supplies to China have been successfully launched.”
The Chairman of the House of Representatives also noted the achievements of sovereign Belarus in the energy security sector: according to him, 100 percent of the population have access to electricity today. “The Belarusian NPP covers about 40 percent of the country's electricity needs. The gasification rate has reached 84 percent (30 years ago, it stood at the level of 35 percent),” he added.
According to Mr. Sergeyenko, the length of roads has doubled in three decades. The mileage of paved roads has been increased 1.5 times to make about 80 thousand kilometres at present.
The official noted that the integrated development of the economy makes it possible to dynamically develop the social sphere. He recalled that the social focus is a distinctive feature of the Belarusian policy, “Despite all the difficulties, the social aspect in the budget formation has been preserved. Since January 1st, the base rate for public sector wages has increased by 6.7 percent (to make Br270), and the minimum wage has increased by Br100 (reaching Br726). Healthcare is also at the highest level, people face no problems in getting medical treatment. As regards our retired citizens, pensions are increased twice a year, and the last time that was done was February 1st, 2025. As a result of the recalculation, the amount of payments will be 10 percent higher on average.”
The Chairman of the House of Representatives also noted the achievements in housing construction, “The accommodation availability for our citizens has increased 1.5 times since 1991. More than 30 percent of housing is built with state support. The regions are developing dynamically.”
Mr. Sergeyenko called on the Vetraz Plant employees not only to preserve the existing achievements, but also to multiply them.
