Belarus’ FM on tasks set by President for Foreign Ministry

Following his today’s report to President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko, Belarus’ Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov told reporters the details of the substantive conversation

The Foreign Minister voiced the tasks set by the President, “The Head of State has set absolutely clear tasks for the development of foreign policy and foreign economic course of our state.”

First of all, the report discussed the degree of preparation for Aleksandr Lukashenko’s foreign visits, as well as visits by top and high-level foreign guests, “Among such visits, I would particularly like to mention the visit of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the President of Guinea-Bissau, and the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam.”

The foreign visits of the President of Belarus will be announced later. In addition, a number of senior Belarusian officials responsible for developing co-operation with specific regions will hold meetings with their counterparts in order to work out all projects and possible proposals in detail within the framework of intergovernmental joint commissions for high-level visits.

The report also touched on the preparations for the EAEU summit to be held in Minsk.

“It will address very important issues in line with the priorities of our chairmanship. The issue of further optimising the human resource potential [of the Eurasian Economic Commission] will be worked out in accordance with the President’s instructions at the EAEU summit in St. Petersburg,” Mr. Ryzhenkov noted.

The FM said that the upcoming meeting with the Belarusian ambassadors was discussed during today’s meeting with the Head of State. According to Mr. Ryzhenkov, the Foreign Ministry is responsible for the preparation of this event.

“In order not only to make a basic assessment of the performance of the heads of all our foreign agencies, but also to look critically, with the participation of top officials, heads of sectoral ministries, agencies and large enterprises, at the question of what prevents us from further developing export-import operations with our partners, what additional efforts should be made to increase our exports and, finally, to solve some issues of Belarus' acquisition of critical imports,” the Belarusian top diplomat emphasised.

According to Mr. Ryzhenkov, the meeting with the President touched on a number of personnel issues in the Foreign Ministry’s activities, “I received clear recommendations on how to proceed. We also discussed the implementation of some of our steps and those of our partners to restore trust in relations with a number of Western countries.
