Belarus’ energy potential should be fully used

Sergei Stelmashok, a deputy of the lower chamber of Parliament, believes the country should use its energy potential as much as possible

Speaking prior to the beginning of a joint session of the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly, Mr. Stelmashok noted that deputies would pay special attention to electric transport development. “In Belarus, a cluster of electric vehicles has been created and, accordingly, production of cargo, passenger and personal electric vehicles is about to be launched. This will require a wide network of charging stations. In addition, many passenger cars are imported into Belarus: from January-September 2021, their number accounted for about 4,000 – a 2-fold increase on 2020. Thus, the issues of energy and infrastructure development for electric transport are of great importance today.”

Mr. Stelmashok believes, priority attention should be paid to cargo and passenger transport in order to use the excess electricity that Belarus has now and which the country has started exporting to Ukraine. “It should be used as much as possible in our country. Electric transport is one of the ways to use it. In addition, it is environmentally friendly and does not depend on hydrocarbon raw materials. All this inspires development of the electric power industry in Belarus,” the deputy emphasised.
