Belarus’ Energy Ministry studies feasibility of building third power unit at BelNPP

Belarus’ Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk spoke about this during a press tour at the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP). According to him, the work on this issue is being carried out in stages.

“The first stage of work is a forecast of electricity consumption in the country for the future. The second point is how much it will fit into the operation of the power system. To do this, Belarus must reach a certain level of electricity consumption. Now we are studying everything, working with the Economy Ministry, other ministries, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in order to develop a feasibility study in the near future for making a final decision,” he added.

With the commissioning of the second power unit, the BelNPP will annually produce about 18.5 billion kWh of electricity, thus covering about 40 percent of Belarus’ domestic needs.
