Belarus, Cuba to build joint pharmaceutical company

Within the structure of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), there is an interdisciplinary pharmaceutical cluster that brings together a number of organisations. One of these is Academpharm, which produces more than 45 full-cycle drugs and biologically active supplements, with about 20 drugs at various stages of development, Aleksei Trukhanov, Academic Secretary of the NAS Department of Chemistry and Earth Sciences, told a press conference.

“Academpharm is implementing an investment project to set up pilot production of solid dosage forms using innovative technologies,” the expert added. “A business plan for the production of dosage forms has been formed, and the issue of developing drugs for rare orphan diseases is under consideration. We are liaising with colleagues from India and Israel. We have quite constructive co-operation with Cuban partners. The issue of creating a joint pharmaceutical company has been worked out, and a co-operation scheme has been planned, including not only the export of our medicines to Cubans, but also the import of medicines we are interested in.”

Mr. Trukhanov stressed that Belarusian scientists pay great attention to expanding the range of new and, most importantly, socially important drugs, which are aimed at treating such diseases as hepatitis B, Alzheimer’s disease, gout and others.
