The Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development of Zimbabwe, Anxious Jongwe Masuka, headed the foreign delegation, and the Agriculture and Food Ministry later commented, “During the talks, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral co-operation in the agrarian sector. Agriculture plays a key role in the economy of Zimbabwe, since a significant share of the working-age population is employed in this industry. The main crops cultivated there include corn, sorghum, peanuts, nuts, and beans. Zimbabwe is interested in expanding trade and economic ties with Belarus.”
According to Mr. Gorlov, the necessary prerequisites have already been created to boost exports of Belarusian products to Zimbabwe. “In 2024, skimmed milk powder was supplied from Belarus to the African country, while citrus fruits and flowers were imported. In early 2025, the trade turnover was replenished with supplies of meat and bone meal. The agreement on the form of the veterinary certificate and permits for all Belarusian dairy processing enterprises to supply their products to Zimbabwe became another important step. Logistics issues, customs duties and a potential increase in the supply of baby food, canned meat and other food products are currently being worked out,” he explained.
In addition, Belarus is ready to train Zimbabwean agricultural specialists and enrol students at specialised universities.
In turn, Anxious Jongwe Masuka stressed that co-operation with Belarus in the agricultural sector is one of the most productive for Zimbabwe: Belarusian technologies for the production of dairy and meat products are of great interest, especially in conditions when the country does not produce baby food. As he noted, the technological equipment of meat and dairy processing plants in Belarus is great.
During the negotiations, special attention was also paid to the construction of grain storage facilities. After the successful use of Belarusian machinery, which has made it possible to achieve record wheat harvests in recent seasons, the partners stated the need to provide conditions for storing the harvested crop.
"The meeting ended with agreements on further development of co-operation in agriculture, education and infrastructure," the source added.
