“This law will be the starting point for the recognition of the genocide of the Belarusian nation in the international arena,” underlined Mr. Andreichenko.
The draft law was submitted to the House of Representatives by the Deputy Chairperson of the Standing Commission on Human Rights, National Relations and Mass Media of the House of Representatives, Lilia Ananich. She said that when developing the document, state and public requests for the preservation of historical memory were taken into consideration, which are the basis for the sovereignty and independence of the Belarusian state.
The parliamentarian underlined, “The draft law is aimed to legislatively support the protection of the fundamental values of the Belarusian nation, the establishment of efficient barriers to attempts to falsify the events and results of WWII, the formation of a fair assessment of the atrocities of Nazi criminals and their accomplices, nationalist formations during the Great Patriotic War and in the post-war period. The memory of the victims of Nazism is sacred for our people. The careful attitude towards it has become a part of the national idea. This position is the basis of the draft law On the Genocide of the Belarusian People. Eighty years since the start of the bloodiest war, having gone through incredible sufferings of war and post-war reconstruction, being subjected to external hybrid aggression nowadays, we have the right and must give a fair assessment of the atrocities of the Nazis and their accomplices on the Belarusian land during the Great Patriotic War and post-war period.”
