"On the one hand, China does not deny that the military actions [in Ukraine] are related to issues of national sovereignty and territorial integrity. However, on the other hand, Beijing sees the expansion of NATO as the cause of the war and shares Russia's concern about national security," a professor of Denmark’s Aalborg University, Li Xing, says in an article.

The author pays attention to the mood in Chinese social networks. According to him, ‘an overwhelming part of the Chinese share their deep understanding of Russia's actions in Ukraine’ but this should not be interpreted as ‘support’ for military actions. "This reflects a kind of general opinion that both Russia and China are becoming targets for attacks and deterrence by the US-led western alliance," Li Xing explains.

The publication also focuses on the policy of double standards of the United States and the European Union. "In the name of its so-called responsibility to protect human rights, the West – led by the United States – has legalised ‘armed humanitarian intervention’…, while overthrowing legitimately elected governments and leaders, and inspiring all kinds of colour revolutions,” the Hong Kong newspaper adds.
