Art has no limits
Classics and Contemporaries project launched at the Shchemelev Art Gallery as part of a joint project of the Minsk City History Museum and the Belarusian Union of Artists
As the Deputy Chair of the Belarusian Union of Artists, Natalia Sharangovich, has informed, the project is on its initial stage, although its first event took place in November-December 2020. It then featured the works by Ivan Misko, Vladimir Tolstik, Vasily Sharangovich and Leonid Shchemelev.
Despite the last year’s success, the format of the project has changed. Its organisers have decided to showcase a hitherto unknown part of Gavriil Vashchenko’s artistry. An exhibition of his watercolours and pastels opened on August 26th at Minsk’s Shchemelev Art Gallery. “A programme of personal exhibitions is planned. It has opened with Gavriil Vashchenko’s exposition and more will follow later this year,” Ms. Sharangovich said.
In turn, the Director of the Minsk City History Museum, Galina Ladisova, believes we have always undervalued our painters – mostly admiring those from Armenia, the Baltic States or Georgia. “Meanwhile, we have many great artists, as well as a real art school – which is large and diverse. We need to constantly showcase the works of our great masters so that they are not forgotten,” she noted.
Actually, contemporary artists are no less talented and there are even some new ‘stars’ in the field of art now. With this in view, the present project could last virtually forever.
