Any strain of virus recognised by new test system from VSMU
A whole line of test systems enabling to speed up the detection of various diseases by several times have been developed and have already been introduced into diagnostic practice by scientists from the Vitebsk State Medical University (VSMU), with Prof. Valery Semenov, Doctor of Medical Sciences and Head of the Infectious Diseases Department, telling us about the most promising new products
“We continue to work on the COVID test systems, the first batch of which was released during the peak of the pandemic. To date, these tests with almost 100 percent accuracy recognise any type and strain of coronavirus infection, which greatly facilitates the work of healthcare institutions. PCR diagnostics remains the most accurate and fastest method, enabling us to identify the causative agent of the disease within about 2.5 hours and quickly determine the tactics of treatment. Compared to imported rivals, our test systems are several times cheaper. Although today, fortunately, COVID-19 has lost its former relevance, it continues to migrate and change. Forewarned is forearmed, therefore, we will continue to work in this direction.”
The second novelty of Vitebsk scientists is the unique ‘Multibak’ test systems, enabling to simultaneously detect nine bacteria at once, causing both intrahospital and community-acquired infections. This is very important especially for those patients who, due to serious illnesses, are being treated in intensive care units. Their bodies are weakened and defenceless against viruses. New test systems help doctors quickly identify the pathogen and find the most effective way to deal with it in the form of the right antibiotic.
Moreover, in total, in recent years, 16 original test systems have been developed at the Department of Infectious Diseases of Vitebsk State Medical University, which are now widely used in Belarus, Russia, other CIS countries and even the European Union.
