Abramenko: in 2022, cargo transportation to China by express trains increased 5-fold compared to 2021

Last year, the volume of cargo transportation from Belarus to China by accelerated trains increased 5-fold compared to 2021 – as noted by Belarus’ Deputy Economy Minister Alesya Abramenko, who is concurrently the head of the working group on trade facilitation of the Commission on Trade and Economic Co-operation of the Belarusian-Chinese Intergovernmental Committee for Co-operation from the Belarusian side

The Deputy Minister noted, “Today, the issues of restructuring logistics chains for the delivery of Belarusian goods to China are very relevant. Schemes for the delivery of goods by rail in the east direction, including accelerated container trains, have been worked out. Over the past year, the volume of such transportation increased 5-fold compared to 2021, and will continue to grow in 2023. After all, the prompt delivery of goods by rail is given special attention by both parties. In 2022, at the site of the Commission on Customs and Quarantine Co-operation of the Belarusian-Chinese Intergovernmental Committee for Co-operation, our country initiated the question of the advisability of organising ‘green railway corridors’ for the delivery of goods, including food products. It was about the transit transportation of products to their destination without stopping trains to comply with quarantine requirements at the Chinese border. We have received confirmation from the local governments of Chengdu and Chongqing – major rail logistics hubs – to lift COVID restrictions from February and resume veterinary control at local customs. In this regard, we began to quickly form a full train with frozen products, which is expected to leave Brest in March.”
