Sabalenka retained leadership in WTA rankings
The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has published an updated version of the world rankings, with Aryna Sabalenka remaining in first place after reaching the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome
Victoria Azarenka dropped 19 places in the rankings and is now 73rd in the world. Meanwhile, Aliaksandra Sasnovich was knocked out of the top-100, changing her 99th place for 107th.
Iga Swiatek of Poland, who has been Sabalenka’s close rival for a long time, dropped from second to fifth place.
Aryna Sabalenka is again in the lead, followed by Coco Gauff (US), Jessica Pegula (US), Jasmine Paolini (Italy), Iga Swiatek (Poland), Mirra Andreeva (Russia), Madison Keys (US), Zheng Qinwen (China), Emma Navarro (US) and Paula Badosa (Spain).
None of the Belarusians are in the top-500 in the Association of Tennis Professionals’ (ATP) updated rankings. Yegor Gerasimov is the highest-ranked Belarusian athlete, having lost 111 places compared to the previous ranking and is now 503rd.
Italy’s Jannik Sinner is still the world’s top-ranked player, followed in the top-10 by Carlos Alcaraz (Spain), Alexander Zverev (Germany), Taylor Fritz (USA), Jack Draper (UK), Novak Djokovic (Serbia), Casper Ruud (Norway), Lorenzo Musetti (Italy), Alex de Minaur (Australia) and Holger Rune (Denmark).
