Valery Tolkachev, the Departmental Head at the Prosecutor’s General Office, leads the investigation team. According to him, about 12,500 people have already been interrogated. More than half of them are former prisoners of concentration and death camps.

“The work on interrogating the Great Patriotic War veterans, disabled people, war children – all those who have information about the destruction of Belarusian population during the Great Patriotic War – is in its final stage,” Mr. Tolkachev says.

Excavations have already been carried out as part of the investigation in twelve previously unknown places of mass destruction and burial: 5 in the Brest Region, one in the Vitebsk Region, two in the Gomel Region, and three in the Minsk Region.
