100+ events to unite Belarus, China in year of China’s SCO presidency
In 2024, China assumed the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO) for 2024-2025, while Belarus completed the process of joining the ‘SCO family’. Counsellor Yan Feng of the Chinese Embassy in Belarus is confident: this undoubtedly means that China and Belarus will witness many ‘SCO highlights’ together this year.
The diplomat expressed this opinion during the Chinese Embassy’s press briefing.
According to the diplomat, co-operation between the two countries will become particularly intense in 2025, “China plans to organise more than 100 events in political, economic, humanitarian and other spheres. There will be a forum of political parties, a round table discussion on global governance, a youth innovation and entrepreneurship contest, a forum of media and think tanks, a series of events on the dialogue of civilisations, film, television and art festivals, and much more. We invite friends from all sectors of Belarusian society to actively participate in these events and jointly share the fruits of the SCO’s development.”
As the diplomat emphasised, the key event during the Chinese presidency will be the organisation of a summit of heads of state: in autumn, SCO leaders will gather in China’s Tianjin to take stock of successful experience and draw up a plan for the future, allowing the SCO to embark on a new stage of development from China. In addition, China will host ministerial meetings in such areas as foreign affairs, defence, transport and health care with the participation of all member states, including Belarus.
