Belarusians win medals in Canoe Sprint at the World University Championships

canoe.pngThe 6th World University Championships in Canoe Sprint, part of the country’s preparation for the 2016 Olympics, was held in Zaslavl near Minsk. Belarus’ athletes took 20 medals: 13 gold, 1 silver and 6 bronze, which allowed the team to take first place in the medal standings.

During the first day of the races, which held medal events in various 1,000m classes, the Belarusians won three gold and three bronze medals. On the second day, Belarus’ kayakers and canoeists arranged a golden extravaganza, winning 10 awards of the highest degree on distances of 200m and 500m, and added a further silver and three bronze medals.

At the closing ceremony the FISU flag was solemnly transferred to representatives of the team of Mexico, who received the right to hold the 7th World University Championships in Canoe Sprint.
