Belstat ‘draws’ portrait of Belarusian teacher

The National Statistical Committee of Belarus (Belstat) has ‘drawn’ a portrait of the ‘average’ Belarusian teacher. She is female (87 percent of teachers and heads of schools) with higher education (93 percent of teachers and heads of schools), working in state general secondary education (99.8 percent) in a city or urban settlement (66 percent) and occupying the position of a subject teacher.

As of early in the 2013/14 academic year, over 122,000 teachers were registered: 81,000 in cities and larger settlements: and 41,000 in rural areas. The national average is 8 pupils per teacher, with the workload of teachers in urban and rural schools differing significantly: 9 and 5 pupils respectively.
