During the 59th session, the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs has adopted a resolution ‘On Measures to Target New Psychoactive Substances and Amphetamine-Type Stimulants’, initiated by Australia, Belarus and the USA.

The resolution is the result of joint work by the three countries’ delegations, which each presented their own draft resolutions at the session. After discussion, they decided to merge their initiatives into a single document, which was then co-sponsored by 15 UN member states.

The Foreign Ministry of Belarus believes that joint effort by the three countries, each representing their continent, attests to the global significance of the need to combat the latest psychoactive substances.

The Foreign Ministry underlined that this resolution is a comprehensive and all-encompassing document, aimed at improving national control over new psychoactive substances, while enhancing international co-operation against the threat generally.
