Several pedestrian crossings in Vitebsk painted like real zebras to aid road safety
The Department of Internal Affairs of Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee has added the contour of an animal to the traditional stripes of the city’s most well-used zebra crossings, hoping to focus children’s attention. Ten such special crossings have been painted, with the head of the animal turned to the left, indicating where to look first.
A metal stencil of about 2.5m х 2m is first drawn, before road enamel is added to complete the image of a zebra. If proven effective, more such crossings will be created, aiding traffic police in keeping urban streets safe for pedestrians.
