UN General Assembly adopts resolution on ‘Co-operation between the United Nations Organisation and the Commonwealth of Independent States’, put forward by Belarus as the current CIS Chair

The CIS gained observer status at the UN General Assembly back in March 1994, and co-operation between the CIS and the UN has since gained momentum. The CIS has signed agreements with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the Economic Commission for Europe, the UN Office in Geneva and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

According to the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, in order to improve collaboration between the UN and the CIS, a solid foundation is needed — to facilitate the development and strengthening of contacts between the CIS and UN institutions. This is an objective of the UN GA resolution ‘Co-operation between the United Nations Organisation and the Commonwealth of Independent States’.
