This tourist route was organized back in May 2005 by the joint Polish-Belarusian venture PM and Company. People from all over Belarus are coming to see the exotic birds. Most of them come during school holidays. In early January alone some 1,500 people came to see the birds. The farm has two guides that know everything about ostriches and peculiarities of their life in Belarus. Visitors often purchase ostrich feathers and dyed eggs.
This year Belarus will have its first restaurant that will offer a wide variety of dishes made from ostrich meat.
PM and Company is one of Europe’s five largest ostrich farms. The farm covers 10 hectares, and has additional 90 hectares to make fodder. The farm has 700 ostriches and plans to increase the number of birds to 1,000 by the end of the year. More than 70 ostriches have been sold to private farmers.
