Belarusian pupils and students will be able to study Chinese beside or instead of the four traditional foreign languages taught in Belarus now, English, French, German and Spanish. Starting 2006 second-year pupils of Minsk schools will start unveiling the secrets of hieroglyphs. As for other cities, Chinese will be taught to seniors as extra-curriculum courses.
The philological department of Belarusian State University has trained the country’s first 18 teachers of the Chinese language and literature.
Any foreign language should be learnt from an early childhood. China is ready to supply the necessary textbooks to Belarus, while specialists of Minsk State Linguistic University have started developing methods of teaching Chinese to Belarusian students.
