As the First Deputy Culture Minister, Irina Driga, recently announced at a press conference, in 2015, around 120 premiere performances were staged, including 30 based on Belarusian authors’ plays. Six international theatrical festivals and forums were held: М@rt.contact; Belaya Vezha; the Christmas Opera Forum; TEART; the 2nd Youth Theatrical Forum of the Commonwealth, Baltic States and Georgia; and the renewed Republican Festival of National Drama (named after W. Dunin-Marcienkiewicz) in Bobruisk.
Macbeth premiere at Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre
In 2015, the Belarusian Republican Young Spectator’s Theatre opened its new building, following renovation. Overall, 29 professional theatres work in Belarus, annually presenting up to 8,000 performances.
Last year, Belarusian troupes toured Azerbaijan, Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, China, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, France and the Czech Republic.
In 2015, the President of Belarus gave special awards for culture and art to the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre, to the M. Gorky National Academic Drama Theatre and to the Belarusian State Youth Theatre.
