Song after tennis

Olga Barabanschikova is a cover girl, film actress, a rising singing star and the second on Belarus’ tennis list after Natalya Zvereva. How can a person have so many talents?

Once she accepted an invitation to attend TV show “While the Candle is Burning” broadcast by STV channel and burst into tears right in front of the camera (which looked rather effective, I should admit). After that, everyone who watched the show asked me a question: “Do you think her tears were real or was it a part of a PR-campaign?” How would I know? That’s what makes Barabanschikova a specialty. A couple of years ago, when she was just beginning to climb her tennis career and popularity ladder, she left everyone flabbergasted by allowing Belarusian sports paper publish her diaries. The Belarusian tennis buffs learned a lot of curious facts about the life of a young girl then, about love experiences, soul, feelings and inner world. Barabanschikova revealed herself, though her revelations were well-paid. Maybe it was then that she gained public love for being open, spontaneous and naive.

Olya is the one, with whom it is impossible to quarrel. I have never met a person, who would say a bad thing about her. You do not believe it? Well. Somehow, many think that her life is as ideal as her image on a magazine cover. She bought herself a flat, visits posh clubs, changes cars like gloves and travels around the world. But nobody asked her how badly it hurt, when she had to leave her tennis career because of the injury. Tennis, a fashionable American magazine, called Barabanschikova the most beautiful tennis-player in the world, while Playboy was ready to offer her a pretty penny for a photo session.

However, money does not buy everything. Barabanschikova turned down the proposal of the magazine, as she did not need to invent any tricks to stay in spotlight. Olga is loved for the energy that she emanates, for being spontaneous and being able to cry right in front of the camera unblushing.

When the winner of the junior Wimbledon became a singer, no one was surprised. The reaction was the same, when 6 months later she issued a CD and her song “I will not Believe” hit the front rows of music parades. Probably, that was only logical. She likes signing. She strives to reach the top here with the persistence that she learned through sport, she is a born leader. She has not found her niche on the Belarusian stage yet, but she is sure to do it in the very near future, no doubt. She seems to want to reach the peak that she failed to reach in tennis due to the injury.

Last summer, Olga took part in the beauty contest held in Ukraine and Belarus and she won it. Here are her comments about it:

— This is not exactly a beauty contest (Diva Belaya Rus in Belarus and Pani Ukraina in Ukraine), — she said. — It was called a festival of female beauty and successful women. Appearances were not the top criterion there. I was really very happy, when I heard the judge announcing me as a winner.

— You will be a film star soon…

— Yes, recently I have been given a role of a 17-year-old rising tennis star. The film is to be shot in the USA. I have a lot in common with the protagonist and the image of her is close to what I feel. There will be a lot of elegant play on court and life in tennis. I will not tell anything else, you’ll have to go and watch the picture.
