Everything in this life comes to its end. And even recourses of the Earth hydrocarbon fuel that seems to be endless are coming to their historical limit: a countdown goes on during the several decades… Sun, wind and split atom for peace — a list of alternative energy sources is not such big. And that is why hydrogen seems to be the last hope of the planet power engineers. How do we decrease energy consumption of production in such conditions? What kinds of new materials will supersede the current ones? Will a scientist have a right to risk? Such difficult questions were put forward to the delegates of the First Congress of Scientists in Belarus. And here are the answers that we have received:
—We can not do without new technologies in the sphere of energy saving. How otherwise it could be possible to decrease the volume of used fuel? Whether the average degree of efficiency of present kilns is 5 percents, we have already developed the samples with 45 percents’ efficiency degree. It’s all over bar the shouting, — according to an academician, the director of Heat and Mass Transfer Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Sergei Zhdanok, — The second important question is to develop principally new materials that will be cheaper, more solid and can be used in the extreme conditions and get to the new stage of thermostability. We are speaking about nanothecnology that allows controlling substances’ features and achieving the result we need. It will be a basis for the whole mechanic engineering for the nearest decades: besides, the ХХIth century is considered to be the epoch of nano-structured materials. Will you imagine a composition that exceeds metal and diamond durability in hundred times! And now that is not a fantasy or hypothesis — but a subject of laboratory research.
