Belarus offers Russia’s Tambov Region help in modernising the agro-industrial complex of this region

Oleg-Betin.jpgThis was noted by Alexander Lukashenko during his meeting with the Head of the Administration of the Tambov Region, Oleg Betin, which was held in Minsk. The Head of State emphasised that Belarus has a fundamental research base and suggested that scientists teamed up to conduct joint research in the field of selective breeding, genetics, crop protection, breeding of highly-productive crop varieties, animal breeds and resource-saving technology. “We’re ready to take part in the modernisation of your animal breeding programmes and, if needed, in the construction of farming-towns. We’re ready to provide you with the most advanced agricultural machinery,” noted Mr. Lukashenko.

Belarus is ready to supply buses and trams to the Tambov Region, provide construction services and meet the region’s need for trucks, quarry machines, road construction machinery, municipal vehicles and elevators.

“In recent years, our country has been actively working to enhance its investment attraction and produce innovative products, oriented for export. This is another area where we would like to expand our co-operation with you. There’re many things we can offer in the field of education, healthcare, culture, sport and tourism,” said the Head of State.

Over the past five years, the trade between Belarus and the Tambov Region has more than doubled. Dealers and service centres of Gomselmash, Amkodor, MTZ and other major Belarusian producers were set up in the area and a number of famous Belarusian brands opened their company stores there.

In the run-up to the first session of the Belarus-Tambov Region working group on co-operation, Mr. Lukashenko suggested discussing and, if possible, resolving the issues that impede robust development of bilateral co-operation. “You can rest assured that if we agree on these things, we will be a reliable partner, just like we are for other Russian regions. We will certainly honour our obligations,” added the President.

In its turn, the Tambov Region proposed the creation of a joint venture in the chemical industry. “We have a chemical enterprise, Pigment JSC, which supplies over 10,000 tonnes of chemicals annually to Belarus, and joint production could be set up,” proposed the Head of the Administration of the Tambov Region.

Mr. Betin noted that some products are manufactured only for Belarus. “We’re ready to allocate these production facilities and workshops for a joint enterprise in order not to organise bids, and the prospect will be seen beforehand.” The Tambov Region is also keen to collaborate with Belarus across other areas. In particular, Mr. Betin suggested discussing an issue on the establishment of a joint company to manufacture construction cranes. According to him, another opportunity for the development of mutually beneficial interaction is footwear production. “We have an enterprise that manufactures special footwear for the military and other organisations, while some constructive elements are produced in Belarus,” added the official.
