Belarus railway has started to apply a system of automated boarding control for passengers with electronic registration

The system is based on the use of mobile document control terminals. The first batch of such devices is currently being tested on the interregional business class train #703/704, Vitebsk-Minsk. In the near future, another 80 mobile terminals will be delivered to the railway, with regional and interregional business class trains being equipped with them first.

Passengers, who formalise a ticket through the Internet with the help of electronic registration, should notice the bar code in the order form. It is possible to show this to a conductor on a mobile phone, a tablet or on a printed order form. If a carriage is already equipped with a mobile terminal, a conductor, having sensed a bar-code, will operatively find the passenger in the electronic register.

Until now, information about citizens who electronically bought tickets was transferred to train brigades on paper. The introduction of this automated system allows for direct transfer to a train via wireless communication channels. In the first half of 2014, about half a million Belarusian railway tickets were bought online — more than double that of the same period last year — with the majority of documents being obtained by the electronic registration service.
