Mr. Zaborovsky welcomed the position of the UK, which does not make Belarus choose between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union. “Belarus plays the role of a bridge between the West and the East, which, in turn, opens up new opportunities for the country’s economy,” he said. He also said that, the main structural reforms in the Belarusian economy are aimed at contributing to its sustainability, while stressing that the experience of economic reform in the UK and other EU countries is important for Belarus.

Moreover, Mr. Zaborovsky also updated the British side on the progress made in talks on a new IMF programme for Belarus, on the preparations for the privatisation of Belinvestbank JSC, and the prospects for Belarus’ economic development in the EAEU.

The parties also discussed co-operation with international organisations, including with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on the formation of a new strategy for Belarus.
