Belarus views Austria as a promising international partner and has grounds to hope for reciprocity, according to Michael Linhart, the Secretary General of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs. He emphasises, “The opening of the embassy demonstrates that Belarus is an important partner for Austria. Co-operation between our countries has been developing for many years. Close ties have been set up in business, with Austrian businesses having long worked in Belarus. Meanwhile, 2bn Euros of direct Austrian investments confirm that Austria is one of the largest western investors for Belarus. We are seeing opportunities for extending and intensifying our economic ties.”
According to the Austrian diplomat, political dialogue with our country in the context of relations with the EU is important for official Vienna. Moreover, Austria has been a pathfinder in Belarus-EU dialogue.
