Domestic drugs’ share of the Belarusian market exceeds 50 percent in monetary terms

To be more precise, Belarus-made drugs account for 52.5 percent of the total amount in US Dollar equivalent, notes Belarus’ Health Minister Vasily Zharko at the final session of the ministry.

A year ago, at the session tackling the state and prospects for development of the Belarusian pharmaceutical industry, the President of Belarus demanded that the population be offered affordable and high quality domestic medicines. Even before this we aimed to sell half (in monetary terms) of Belarus-made medicines on the domestic drugs market.

According to the Minister, the task was achieved primarily thanks to the Pharmaceutical Industry Department. However, we shouldn’t rest on our laurels. The Minister believes that the participants of the pharmaceutical market have to pay special attention to proper marketing and more active advertising, as well as on the enhancement of the level of knowledge of both medical workers and the population regarding domestic drugs. Mr. Zharko noted that they rival imported ones in their quality and efficiency yet are much cheaper.

In 2015, the enterprises of the Pharmaceutical Industry Department mastered the production of 178 new medicines. Our pharmaceutical goods were exported to 28 countries, with exports reaching almost $90m.
