The 18th International Festival of Classical Music “January Musical Evenings” took place in Brest.
Listeners were treated to the best musical achievements of musicians and performers from 10 countries. Their attention was directed to various schools and trends of classical and modern musical art. Performance mastery was demonstrated by a brass band from Hungary and “Big Band” from Latvia as well as soloists from Russia, Belarus, Austria, Poland, and China.
A special place in the festival programme was assigned to Belarusian performers, who arrived in the city upon the Bug from various corners of Belarus. Among them there were three leading bands of Belarus — national academic people’s choir named after Tsitovich, symphonic orchestra of the Belarusian Musical Academy “Young Belarus” and an orchestra of Russian folk instruments from Molodechno.
Besides traditional contests the festival’s framework featured a grand theatre and concert programme. The stage of Brest Drama and Music Theatre welcomed an operetta “Mister X” by Emmerich Kalman involving stars of Moscow State Academic Operetta Theatre. The festival ended with a great gala concert.
