Grodno ecologists promote tyre recycling before winter-change-over

The Youth Centre in Grodno has gained a huge chess board, more than 80 square metres in size, and coated with rubber from recycled tyres. A recent promotional event saw youngsters taking part as living chess ‘figures’, wearing costumes made from old grocery bags. The initiative is the work of the Ecological Alternative Company together with Grodno Plus TV Channel, aiming to encourage recycling. Mikhail Lis, from Ecological Alternative, tells us, “We want to draw attention to existing environmentally friendly tyre recycling, now, before drivers throw away their old tyres, replacing them with winter tyres.”

Currently, old tyres tend to be used at livestock farms but their application could be far more extensive.
