Leadership in demographic question

In Belarus the female population exceeds the male population by 647 thousand. As of January 1, 2007 the number of representatives of the fair sex amounted to 5 million 179,3 thousand, or 53,3 percent of the whole population. For 1000 men in the Republic there are 1138 women, in the cities — 1140 and in rural areas — 1133 women. It is certified by the information of the Ministry of Statistics and Analysis.

The educational level of female part of the country on the whole is higher than male, and it remains constant for quite a long period. Among the working women 54 percent have higher and specialized secondary education, and among men — 37 percent (in the year 2000 correspondently 49 percent and 33 percent.

The collectives of the trade and catering enterprises, culture institutions, educational, health care are predominantly “female”. Specific weight of women in these branches amounts to 71 percent up to 86 percent.
Among the employees of all the governmental levels 66,1 percent are women, who as a rule, occupy the positions of the head, leading and other specialists. Among the heads of Republican agencies of State administration and their Deputies 17,3 percentare women-heads.
