Here and Now
The whole month of July looked like a big red-letter day owing to the national holiday of the sovereign country, the Day of Independence, or the Day of the Republic. Belarus still needs time to make the national holiday the real embodiment of Spirit and Symbol. The country succeeds more and more with each coming year
July 3 has become a very significant date for the whole country. The day Belarus was liberated from fascist invaders was made the starting point for the sovereign Belarus as we know it now. People cherish the memory of self-sacrifice and associate the Day of the Republic with the sovereignty of the state.
Belarus is a full-fledged independent participant of the world community that supports integration initiatives in the post-Soviet space. The article “EurAsEC and CSTO: from Concepts to Specific Actions” is dedicated to Belarus’ integration efforts and unification processes in the former Soviet Union.
Minsk has hosted meetings of the Interstate Council of the EurAsEC and regular session of the CSTO. The heads of state reached a number of essential agreements. Drawing the results of the two summits the presidents said the sessions had been extremely productive and underlined those were the sincerest exchanges of opinion in a very long time.
We focus on the most newsworthy events, those that stand out even from quite significant happenings.
The new building of the National Library, opened in June, became one of the major breakthroughs for the country. The article “Unique Investment in Future” presents the first impressions of the amazing diamond of a library.
There is an important peculiarity in the new building: the builders and architects received vital experience, and many of them have been invited to work abroad. But, according to the president, we are close to a stage where we will require more builders for Belarusian projects.
Belarus had planned to build a new library, but the project turned out to be the largest information, social and cultural center of the country. This is a treasury of knowledge, which is not restricted by the book reserve. The library possesses modern communication lines that connect it with the largest centers of the kind in the world. The Belarusian library is sure to become a part of the intellectual treasury of the planet.
These are characteristic features of a modern independent nation that praises its sovereignty, but is ready for mutually beneficial integration.
