Delegation from medicine center of Texas technology University (USA) led by Prof. Bonna Benjamin visited Gomel. The delegation signed a partnership agreement with Gomel State University of medicine.In her interview to “BELARUS” reporter Mrs. Benjamin mentioned that this is one of stages of cooperation that has been linking universities of Gomel and Texas. According to her, the agreement covers virtually all branches of medicine and will allow to provide basis for implementation of specific programs on research in surgery and pediatrics, trainee programs and exchange of educational programs. Delegation leader thinks it is possible that a deeper study of post-Chernobyl problems could be also included into joint research programs.
Mrs. Benjamin added that during the preliminary discussion of cooperation the parties addressed possibility of including the University of Texas into “Distant medicine” project of Gomel University, which already unites a number of higher education institutions of Belarus, Japan and Scotland.
During their two-day staying in Gomel the American deputation visited regional infectious diseases hospital and regional cardio surgery center. Representatives of Texas University have also given lectures to Gomel doctors and students.
