Good Reason

This May has proved very meaningful for our magazine. Just a year of creative efforts, and so many achievements recognized by a high jury. “Беларусь. Belarus” was called the best socio-political and literary magazine of Belarus at the second national contest of the press. A real triumph for your young edition. We congratulate you, too, dear readers
Мay is the right time to flourish, and although climate is continental and temperate in Belarus, you can swear you smell the tropics here. You are aware this feeling is deceptive, but the only thing is to surrender. Nature is at its best, and however long this winter could seem, summer is definitely coming.

May means holidays. The first day of the month is a traditional day of solidarity with the world’s workers. Much has changed in the world, and a lot is changing now, but most people are still united by comprehensible and simple values. The right to work is one of these values, however emotional this may sound.

The most special day of the month is definitely May 9, the Victory Day. This year we met the 61st spring of Victory, and Belarus celebrated the occasion solemnly and sincerely. Veterans of the Great Patriotic War (and there are fewer of them every year) were remembering their front-line youth, years of incredible hardships and heroism. Grandchildren bowed again to the war heroes for their feat and self-sacrifice. This holiday is truly special for all Belarusians: the war left its trace on nearly every family.

And one more thing. The famous Spanish sculptor Carlos Mata came to our editorial office the other day. He had once come across our magazine with a report about an exposition of Belarusian sculptures, and Belarusian art impressed the maestro. He came from Barcelona to Minsk specially to meet his Minsk colleagues and familiarize himself with their works.

We have invited Carlos Mata to our place again to show him our trophy — the “Golden Letter”, as we believe our Spanish friend will like it a lot. There is a good reason to meet, anyways.

“Till next time,” we tell all our readers, as we are looking forward to our next meeting.
