Belarusian national ice hockey team begins training for 2014 IIHF World Championship, hosted by Minsk from May 9th-25th, with head coach deciding to build load gradually

Glen Hanlon notes that the first training sessions will focus on the physical form of the players, with individual plans tailored to their needs: some require time in the gym while others need training on the ice. Forwards Alexey Ugarov and Andrey Stepanov finished their season with their KHL clubs some time ago, so are a little out of practise on the ice. Meanwhile, Mr. Hanlon praises HC Gomel players, who he thinks are on good form.

The head coach believes that one of the most important tasks at the first stage of training will be used to ensure that all team members are feeling fit. Mr. Hanlon appears relaxed about the situation, without external pressure felt.

The first stage of the 2014 IIHF World Championship will be held at Minsk-Arena, with the full roster formed after the teams play in various championship playoffs.

The Belarusian national hockey team will hold seven matches ahead of the 2014 IIHF World Championship: six friendlies as part of the European Ice Hockey Challenge, in April, and one game against Denmark in May.
