How many potatoes are eaten per head in Belarus each year? According to the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, 179kg in 2013, down from 186kg in 2012, and about 183kg in 2011 and 2010, while the rational norm is 129.1kg.

Contrary to nutritional advice, our people love potatoes, making sure they are well stocked over the winter months, buying several sacks from Minsk’s agricultural fairs. Experts at the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus believe that, from late September to mid October, 77 weekend fairs take place in the city, selling over Br36bn of goods. Minsk residents buy more than 4,500 tonnes of fruit and vegetables, including almost 2,100 tonnes of potatoes.
